Mummy Makeover

Treatment overview

Pregnancy changes your body in ways that exercise and diet can’t always reverse. A mummy makeover deals with those changes together, in one planned operation.

A mummy makeover is a combination of procedures chosen to address the changes pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding leave behind. For most women that means loose or stretched skin on the tummy, separated stomach muscles, and breasts that have lost volume or dropped.

Most patients choose to combine breast and tummy surgery, often a tummy tuck with a breast uplift. Some add liposuction, fat transfer or labiaplasty. Every plan is built around you. Dr Khoda talks through what’s bothering you most, examines you in person, and then recommends the combination that makes sense for your body.

FAQ’s

Most women focus on the breasts and tummy, but the choice is yours. Dr Khoda helps you work out which combination will give the result you’re after. Options include:

You’re likely to be suitable if you’re close to your goal weight, you’ve finished having children and you’ve stopped breastfeeding. Another pregnancy, or continuing to nurse, can undo the results. You also need to be in good general health. Dr Khoda checks for anything that could affect healing, such as uncontrolled diabetes or a heart condition, before confirming you’re suitable.

Your in-person consultation and surgery are both at Pines Hospital, 192 Altrincham Road, Manchester M22 4RZ. There’s free parking on site, which helps on the day of surgery and at follow-up appointments.

Get to a stable, healthy weight and eat well in the weeks before. Sort out help at home early. You won’t be able to lift young children for several weeks, so line up a partner, family member or friend before your date. Bring any questions to your consultation, and take time to weigh up the risks Dr Khoda explains against the result you want.

It depends on the procedures you choose, but most mummy makeovers take between two and four hours. Most patients stay one night at Pines Hospital. Dr Khoda will confirm your operating time and length of stay at your consultation.

Only the breast part of the surgery has any bearing on breastfeeding. A tummy tuck or liposuction won’t affect it. Most women keep enough glandular tissue, nerves and milk ducts to breastfeed after an uplift or augmentation, and implants don’t affect the safety of breast milk. Even so, we recommend waiting until you’ve finished having children. A future pregnancy can stretch the skin and separate the repaired muscles again.

Recovery depends on the procedures you’ve had, and Dr Khoda will go through yours in detail before your surgery date. Plan to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for six weeks, and that includes picking up your children. You’ll wear compression garments for six weeks too. Gentle showers are fine.

Every operation carries risk. Dr Khoda uses a no-touch technique, which means nothing that has touched skin comes into contact with the wound, including the inner surface of dressings. The most common complications are bleeding, haematoma, infection, numbness, changes in nipple sensation, and needing a further operation. There’s also a risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Your specific risks depend on the procedures you choose, and Dr Khoda will explain them at your consultation.
